I've got a summer job working at a local sailing school just over a mile from my house and I use my bike to commute back and forth.

I'm looking for a pannier that will fit my Charge Duster so I can carry all my sailing gear (roughly 4-5kg) more easily.

Anybody use a mountain bike pannier or can suggest anything?

Cheers

Conor

Have a look at the Topeak beam racks (£31.00 from Tredz).

Argos do one for £10.00 but I don't know what the quality's like

I've just ordered a Topeak MTX beamrack, it should be with me on Monday (but that's a different thread).

Not all MTB's have the relevent mounting points for fixing a full rack (mine doesn't).

Basically beam racks attatch to your seatpost with a quick release mechanism which means you can remove them quickly and in the case of the Topeak will carry up to 10KG.

Most dont come with pannier support so they are only really good for top mounted bags, although Topeak do make an adaptor for their racks that allows the fitting of mini panniers.

If you've got the cash then the Topeak MTX bags are a good bet. They come in several different sizes and clip straight on to the MTX rack.

Strictly speaking you dont need to buy a rack specific bag you could just bungee any bag to it.

Just before you do..............I would say that if your frame is 18 inch or above and you have a spare 6 inches of post showing then you should get the V type.

    Looks like this

I took delivery of mine this morning (I got the E type for nomal size frames) and even with the rack sat at the bottom of the seatpost there's a 4 inch gap between the underside of the rack and the top of the wheel.

Damm........... I'm going to send it back and get it swapped for the V type. It will sit further up the post but I should be able to get to sit closer to the rear wheel.
