Hey i took my Trek Top Fuel 8(2007 model) into my local bike shop(trek dealer). To have a new bottom bracket fitted because it had come a little loose. when they took my bike apart they said that due to a problem to the bottom bracket the frame has been written off. Trek have agreed to send a new frame from the US in 3-4 weeks, but i have to play my local bike shop 120 pounds to buid my bike back up on the new frame.

Im after some help, has anybody heard of any cases like mine and im thinking should trek cover the costs??

thanks.

Seems a bit off. You might be able to take it up with Trek and try to get them to cover the rebuild cost, at least you have that 3-4 weeks to work on it.

Was the bottom bracket problem due to bad fitting at the time of manufacture/bike assembly or a subsequent bearing/crank change, after you bought it?
    Damaged thread?
If the bb is the original and has never been touched,I`d say Trek should be liable for the £120,labour charge too. :!:
If it was down to a subsequent, upgrade or fitted later,I`d say its a good deal that Trek are giving you!

£120..are they having a giraffe....with most warranty stuff its either fitted F.O.C or the bike shop bills the manufacturer/suppliers for any labour costs incurred. But still £120 to reassemble a bike is a bit too high me thinks. I'd be having a word.

Sounds fairly normal to me. A colleague had a similar experience and had to pay, he also ended up buying a few bits that wouldn't swap over
  • I'd never pay £120 to have my bike put together!

Have to look into it, but don't think you are liable to pay in these cicrumstances. They wrote the frame off!

Contact Trek UK with the dilemna. I think the warranty covers parts, but not labour, but to take a bike in and them saying 'this happened, £120 quid please' doesn't seem right to me.

Also ask the shop what the specific problem was.
