hi guys i'm a mountain biker by trade (so to speak) but i'm just getting into triathlons. i took part in a sprint distance race last week on my mtb with slicks fitted and i have got the bug. especially as i didnt finish last lol!

i am having a nightmare deciding how to decide what bike to buy. i dont really want to get a cheap bike now to totally replace in a year or so. therefore one thing i am certain of is that i want a good frame worth upgrading, with lower end components.

the bike i have in mind is the giant defy 3. is this frame worth it? any other suggestions for bikes that meet these needs? i would consider anything up to about £1200 but i could go buy the defy now. the usual case of wanting a new toy now lol!

They have both won different bike of the year awards from different mags - so neither is a bad bike. The boardman can be hard find.
    Other bikes people like are

    ribble sportive

    Planet x pro carbon

my favourite Kuota Kharma - mainly because it is very pretty.

you will struggle to get a bad bike for £1200 though!

thanks i think i'm going to go with the defy. gonna try and negotiate a good deal as i'm gonna get an anthem x at the same time.
  • if you're focussing on triathlons, (and they're non drafting) then don't forget to budget for some half decent clip on aero bars. (£80 ish) they'll make you faster!

I rate the oval A710 because they are ultra adjustable & have about a billion million different positions.

In every review I've seen on the Boardman, they seem to reckon it's the best bike you can spend £1k on.

If budget is 1200 i'd get the boardman as you can use the 200 left for shoes, pedals and tribars. buy tri shoes as my road shoes have a ratchet on and they cost me time in a tri.
