Hi Guys,

I want to upgrade my low rent Shimano M442 chainset for something a little lighter and stiffer.

Both the Deore and LX can be had for around the same price at CRC.

Which should i go for?

Cheers,

LX is higer end and I'm fairly sure quite a lot lighter so that if they're really the same price

    /edit

hmm, OK, it's these two you're on about

    Deore
    Deore LX

    both 59.99

Now, they don't say so I'm not sure but the Deore could be a 2010 unit, although I didn't think they were available yet. If it is, then there may be little between them (there's an article somewheer else here about 2010 Deore). I'd probably still go for the LX though, 950 gr for a 60 quid at LX quality level sounds like a very good deal

I had the same choice earlier in the year then merlin were doing them for £55. Suffice to say I went with the LX - it's not a current model but looks a little nicer than the Deore and is lighter by a few grams..

I did the same, bought one about 6 months ago and it's a fantastic piece of kit.

The M442 is a decent chainset - the Deore will only be marginally lighter, and a little stiffer.

They did have XT for 80 quid.

yeah, but that means given teh 2 at teh same price you'd choose teh LX, right?

however XT for only 20 pounds more is an easy decision actually

I change my advice; Deore or LX? Neither. Get the XT

Yeah, definitely the LX over the Deore! Also got the Hone in stealthy black for 60!

Thanks for the replies so far. I saw the XT for £79 and it would have been the easy choice, but they are all gone :(
