I notice we haven't had one of these for a while. What should I get when our C2W scheme starts up?

You know what.....I do. I didn't know they existed until too late in the day, but it's exactly what I'm after.

Plus I'd feel dirty when I rode it

  • I worry that if I ride something with drop handlebars, I might start thinking wearing Lycra is a good idea. Worse still I might start thinking it's normal. :D

You will, it's happening to me, first the tops and shorts get a slightly slimmer fit and before you know it, looks like your wearing lycra body paint.

I'm Currently at the tighter tops & baggies stage.

Oh and I do now think it is normal, and feel slightly dirty putting baggies on.

Doesn't just happen with drops, I'm afraid lycra has come over me too. I still however do throw on a small pair of shorts over the lycra ones (sometimes baggy, sometimes not) simply cos it makes me feel less self-conscious!

Assos has been known to hand out free mitts at bike events as a gateway step to get users hooked. The initial rush of comfort and conform quickly wears off and users step up, perhaps a branded bottle, perhaps a wicking t shirt.

The downward spiral has begun and before you know it they are strung out on replica team kit, mainling chamois creme, chasing the pack dragon and robbing the joint acct on the sly to feed their bib short habit.

The Verve wrote a song about it

    The Lugs Don't Work.

A sad anthem about a user whose new carbon bottle mount wouldn't fit on his frame.

Padded lycra? Didn't you put up pages and pages of arguments about not wanting to wear it? Or was it not wanting to go commando.... :x

Well you shouldn't! Take solace in knowing that if you go to Richmond Park all the men standing around you will be commando...

Go one liberate yourself, whip them knickers off, throw em in the air and let em fly!!!!

Heh! Quite comfortable, thanking you ;)

As said before, the day when I can afford to have enough shorts and manage my time well enough to wash them all after they've been used once each, maybe I will. I had quite a gross argument for why I won't be dirty and wear them commando-style more than once, please don't make me repeat it!

You can't wash them, it will take away your mojo and go fast magic - everyone knows this.

Come on chaps, I've had no help here at all!

I ask a simple question and it suddenly gets hijacked about cycling in the buff, which obviously I do appreciate. However, we have loads of threads about that, but I couldn't find anything on the old hybrid/roadie issue. I was thinking along these lines...

Looks good, although if it's almost exactly a road bike, why not put drops on it.

If your not confortable with drops, then something like that would be ideal, although I will still recommend a road bike after spending a year on a hybrid.
