Never seen them so bright, are quite rare. Just looks like a streak of daylight in the sky, very freaky! Especially when you see stars shining above and below it!0

Better ones:0

the other nigth i was in the garden at 11:50 and could easily see - just like dusk0 -
I took some pics from Newquay whilst on hols. The Noctilucent Clouds were quite spectacular and unexpected:

Great shots! I need a better camera lol. You can see the rippling very clear in those.
Was a good display last night too.0 -
so what exactly re they and why are they occurring, are they rare or summat?0
-
Very high clouds, ofter 60 miles up at the edge of space. The reflect sunlight, even though the sun is down, so you get eery glowing clouds in the night.
Due to ice in the upper atmosphere - and as we are at solar minimum, more forms.0 -
oooh, how far north can this be seen? I wanna check this out!0
-
Anywhere in the UK! Even the moon, apparently - the ISS got some good shots!!!
50-70 degrees N are the best places in summer, about 2 hours after sundown.0 -

Latitude shouldn't have an effect, I don't think :?
Although i have been seeing it a lot recently.
On a completely unrelated note, did you go to Bangor University? Now that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
If you go too far north in summer, when they tend to form, it is too bright at night, and too far south they don't get illuminated.0

Damn. Missed them! I was very lucky on hols to see them. But now I'm back home the northern horizon up to 20 degrees altitude is useless so I need people to tell me when they are occurring! Do you know if there is an alert network?0 -
Not that I know of! Seems to be random: at least with the aurora you can get alerts from the CMEs etc.
If I see them forming early on I'll try and post quick on here.0 -

Very pale sky tonight again. Now that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
I got some photos of glowing skies earlier, very cool stuff, but we get that quite often on the coast here, at any time of year. I never knew what it was called before, or what caused it.
Whytepeak, I went to bangor technical college, to study electrical & mechanical engineering, machining and fabrication.
I've lived in this area my whole life, and have almost no intention of ever moving away, it's beautiful here. I like it.0
