... or not blowing apart as the case seems to be. Lead group of around 18 riders with just under 5km to go.

From the profile, the final climb said it was 8.9% average and 16% max. Then Cancellara gets 2nd.

What am I missing here (I didn't watch the stage)?!

You missed Saxo handing the stage to one Swiss, trying to keep the group intact for another.
At one point Frank Schleck had to sit up and wait for Spartacus.
Not the only "big guy" mixing it up.
Tony Martin all over the front of the race, like a cheap suit.

Yes, a short, (very) sharpe cat 1, followed by a short shallow 3rd cat and a flat finish.

Still, when you see all the big engines start to climb like this, you know the Tour is only just around the corner.

    Passports......What passports?

    spartacus the yo yo basically

climb is split in 2 sections... top part is cat 3 with a summit 1k before finish line on the flat (gentle down hill in parts)

cat 1 section is short... cancellara rode at the front of the bunch hitting the climb slid down the lead group than came back up the group on the flat section between the cat 1 and cat 3 section

A schleck didn't have the legs for any of it

kreuzinger sat on the back drinking the whole way up as thou on a training ride while tony martin and Taaramae(sp?) had repeated digs... then in last 300m Kreuz sprinted for the line covering karpets

who really should lose that mullet and beard

Ag2r rode on the front at the highest tempo they could and when Tadej was left to fend for himself he did the same thing...

its a really really crap race this year... Terribly poor parcours... no wonder many of the big guys rode the dauphine instead - much better training for the Tour. Today was supposed to be the queen stage... What a joke... As was the case yesterday and the day before, it doesnt matter if you put a huge mountain in the stage if you place it at the start or middle of the stage... Tomorrow will be a day for sprinters and Thursday and Friday are both simple stages with short climbs at the end that most of the bunch will get over together..

Actually Im beginning to think Cancellara could win the race overall... He said at the press conference on Saturday after winning stage 1 that the route was much easier than usual this year

I think the organiser has been hoping for this. A home win would do wonders for the race given Cancellara's popularity in Switzerland. A glance at the stages almosts suggests the race was designed for this...
