I'm currently building up a road bike for my daughter, using a donor bike with 9 speed ultegra,& a new frame
The donor bike ( a gift from my brother) has a cassette with a 23 lowest, which won't be low enought for the 9 year old
Can i source a 9 speed MTB cassette to get the lower gears desired (ie will it fit on the road hub),or do i need a compact chainset?
Thanks in advance

you can use a 9spd mtb cassette but you'll need a mtb rear mech

road rear mechs will only do sprockets up to about 28t (long or short cage)

Never built a bike for a 9yr old but I suspect a compact and a mtb cassette might be the way to go. Then she'll be able to get up pretty much anything.
