    aren't campag nipples slightly smaller?

Don't know. I fitted Centaur and bought the Campag inner and outer cables. Campag outers are made of long strands of wire, rather than a coiled wired if that makes sense. There are quite a few angles routing along the handlebar, so I thought better to get the proper stuff. Also, the outer has to fit into the plastic groove of the Ergopower lever (without a ferule), and bog standard coil cables might not fit.

As you have got your Shimano stuff, I'd give it a go, but check the shifting at extreme angles to make sure it works before taping down your cables or putting on bar tape. Usually this stuff does work.

Word of caution: if you go for Campag outers you will need proper cable cutters to get a clean cut on the outers, as they can fray easily.

The nipples on the Campag cables are smaller than those on the Shimano. I would avoid anything which could compromise the operation of the shifters.

You can file down the nipples to suit at a stretch, but the sake of a few quid, best to start with the Campag cables - Ergos don't chew cables unlike STIs IME.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

If they are genuine Shimano then they are too big.
    Most branded cables fit either.
But as Monty dog says and from experience start off with the right cables...Campag.
