Hi all,
i want your opinion on which bike to go for.
1st off i have had a 06 Stump and broke that, a 08 Stumpy and broke that, a 09 meta 5 and have broke that as well so need something stronger. the type of riding i do is trail riding + jumps and drop offs, but i also want to be able to pedal up the hill as well
I am thinking of getting a orange Alpine frame and Fox 36 rc2 floats any other ideas?

Yeah, need to forget bikes like the Stumpy and that Meta, are more XC/trail based than thrashers. Sounds like the DH you do really does require a DH bike.
How about a Spesh SX?0 -
Yeah i love Spesh, but only need the frame and forks to keep costs down.http://www.sketchymtb.co.uk/Blah.pl the new XC in Kent

The Reign X is another possibilty:

Hideously ugly, but people love 'em!0 -
thought of a bionicon supershuttle?
they WORK!0 -
And my third and final offer:

Bit different, but more of the AM to it, pedal great. Is a full bike but loads of kit that could be sold on!0 -
Any opinion on the Alpine? or does anyone have one on here that can talk about it?
I like the idea of it being very strong. as cannot deal with another broken frame.http://www.sketchymtb.co.uk/Blah.pl the new XC in Kent

Sounds like you need two bikes, one for the XC/trail stuff and then either a full on FR or DH bike.
Can you get a test of the Alpine? To see how well it peddles.0 -
There was another thread on it recently.0

Sounds like you need a Santa Cruz Nomad, Driver or Specialized SX Trail.Specialized Enduro SL Pro Carbon
Specialized Stumpy Evo Carbon
Canyon Aeroad Disc Di2

Mark- You definitely don't want an SX Trail. My Enduro weighs enough, now imagine that even heavier with a 3 or 4 deg slacker head angle  There is no way you'd drag that up any big hills!
How about the new Enduro? A lot of people ride them on the Mega Avalanche, so should be up to your riding.0 -
LOL another broken Meta 5 LOL
Entertain me please how did you break it
I know the Orange 5 AM can take upto 4 ft Drops with no probs
and worn the T shirt many times on that.
Have heard people doing more.
Also very good at going uphill with the rear shock settings
Not tried the Orange Alpine 160 but for what I have only heard
that someone found it hard to ride up hills
Was looking at that myself But am very happy with the 5 AM
Before I bought mine I rang Orange and they told me it can do
Downhill and other things has long as I did not do no more
than 4 ft drops.
So I stick to that.
Orange 5 AM comes in at 29.5 lbs for a medium
I am in East London so you can always pop over and take a look at it
upto you message me or can give you my number to chat.0 -
Yeah but what is the New Enduro like? can i handle aggressive riding? and how much is just the frame? i have about £2000 to spend and as said before need only frame and forks.http://www.sketchymtb.co.uk/Blah.pl the new XC in Kent

Grantways, the Meta is a fantastic bike and begs you to ride harder and faster than it was made to do. It feels so planted but is no good at taking jumps/drops of more than about 2 foot or you crack the frame...http://www.sketchymtb.co.uk/Blah.pl the new XC in Kent

Intense tracer or 2nd hand 5.5 or 6.6?
Not ridden the Tracer but have tried out the 5.5 and 6.6. For me I'd choose the 5.5 but then I'm not droppnig off sheds ;-)
Not tested to destruction of course but Intense (non FRO) frames seem very beefily made, even the Spider (XC)Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer
If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day0 -
2009 Scott Ransom 30 Frame:
http://www.kudubikes.co.uk/cgi-bin/trol ... TRANSOM30F
with this Rock Shox Lyrik 2-Step Air Forks 2009
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=29836
to match the frame colour scheme, you should have a tough enough all mountain rig.
And if you brake this frame, Scott will instantly raplace it with a carbon one, probably.0 -
i rode a Scott Ransom a few years ago and didnt like it, It felt woolly and unresponsive. Spesh had fantastic Customer care (i broke 3 frames), I just need a bike that is going to at least last 3 or 4 years or i think my wife will divorce me......http://www.sketchymtb.co.uk/Blah.pl the new XC in Kent

deadpool2e think you be better on top of some Aluminium with your reputation0 -
I'm sure that Commencal will fix it if they want to aim it at 5 foot drops. Just like Orange did when the original swingarms used to break in their 100s ;-)0
-
LOL Sonic bring on the proof of that one.
ALL Looking very Commencal to me
META 5 Glen Miller Bike Ride0 -
Hehe, not even a swingarm, and is a Patriot!
Seen loads of bust bikes, from just about every brand! Even a Zaskar ;-)0 -
Find that is a 224 DownHill bike need to see the crash for that0
-
Thats just it, can break anything if you crash it awkwardly. Many times the damage has been done on something much bigger, then you hop off a kerb and it lets go.0
-
LOL Sonic you do Crack me up LOL
What is the scrap value of Aluminium with Meta 5 stickers on it !
I question the quality of the Meta 5 obviously a wanna be Trail bike
What a cracking Birthday you have given me Sonic0 -
metas have a great rep ...... other than the breakages
but then again i broke ur mum0 -
Well I wouldn't have a Mwta - though I wouldn't have an Orange 5 either! Don't like single pivots.0
