It arrived yesterday. I was very disappointed by the "raw" looking carbon which actually looks like it is stuck together with glue. :!:

However from a distance she is a beauty, so I only look at her through squinted eyes. After the usual hours of trying to take off and put on pedals I was ready to give it a quick spin at 20:00......

The acceleration was awesome, (in the true sense of word). If only all technology made such a difference to my performance! I was in trouble with the Mrs when darkness finally forced me to head for home.

The whole bike is nice and firm….too firm some say but I'll see tonight as I head out for a quick 60k. Its incredibly responsive and the brakes trim off speed very effectively; I was whipping round corners so fast I had a smile on my face normally evoked by gnarly trail riding. :D

For the money | spent I think I got a bargain.

I saw someone bring a Dolan Mythos into our clubroom, he was selling the frame for £200. And yes, I thought the same thing about it being joinged together with glue. You could see the joining points of the different tubes. Monocoque carbon my A***

That said, the Focus is surely an improvement over the Mythos (doesn't Nicole Cooke's team use them?) and you definitely got one of the few bargains to be had in the 2009 road bike market. Enjoy the ride :D

You finally got it then - seems you made a good choice - acceleration is a key factor for me when cycling - its the bit you really enjoy.

nice to see a tad of honesty about your views on the appearance as well

hopefully will be joining the carbon club in the next few weeks

Nice to know you like the handling, I've just ordered one today, should be here next week. Wiggle were talking up the raw carbon finish suggesting it was better than last years cosmetic finish, each one will be unique apparently  .
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

It's great when people buy a bike and the first ride makes them smile loads. Enjoy the Cayo - it's a great bike already and a good base for upgrading bits if you feel the need later.

I dont know either frames but know a bit about laminating, it may be that the "joints" you can see are from the mould, where a tube and lugged plug has been used as the former and not polished and filled sufficiently. This would be cosmetic only and not structural.

I cannot see a retailer or manufacturer sellling a monocoque thats not - trades description and all that.

:D yeah but who wants to know! There are big lines down the tubes which I am assuming are mold marks (as suggested above) but it 'looks' vulnerable.

Re my longer ride last night .............VVVVVVVVVVVVVIbrations. I dont think any fillings are loose but my arms did seem to tire more quickly; I was hammering it though

It can't be. It's advertised as monocoque and has been for serveral years now, if it's glued together after all, I think the trade descriptions people would have paid a visit

surely the layers of carbon weave will have been bonded together with some form of epoxy resin - I'd be worried if they weren't.....
