Has anyone here done the surrey "Legs Of Steel" sportive??
Is it a well organised event?
I have never done a sportive before but do plan to do one or two "Evans Ride It's" beforehand. It looks like a nice challenge and not too difficult to get to, especially as i don't drive

I did the first one in 2007 but missed it last year. It's really well organised and offers a challenging route that isn't too long so is ideal for a first sportive.
You've two options on the train, either go to Dorking (or get off at the stop before, Boxhill and Westhumble if the train stops there) and ride up Box Hill to the start or you can get the train to Tadworth and ride from there, which is a slightly easier route.0 -
Qjump says I can get from Victoria to Box Hill & Westhumble for 7.45am. Wonder if that is enough time to scramble up the hill?
Ahh I could get the 6.50 from London Bridge which pulls in to Tadworth at 7.33. Sorted!!!
Thanks for that info on Tadworth
Me thinks this is the perfect excuse for getting some shiny new wheels0 -
Sounds a nice route - I used most of those hills in training for the Dragon ride (my first sportive) - there was nothing as nasty (in the same way) as Winterfold or Whitedown on the Dragon.
7:45 to Boxhill station will be get you to the top for about 8, so plenty of time.0 -
26th of September... That sounds nice...
But I've never been there...0 -
@NWLondoner - another event that you might like to consider is the Dulwich Paragon's Ride of the Falling Leaves, which is usually held on the first Sunday in October. It starts from Herne Hill velodrome which is a 3 minute ride away from either Herne Hill or North Dulwich stations.
It's well organised and does a great route out into the lanes of Kent. You get a free drink and a plate of pasta at the end too.
More details on the Dulwich Paragon website;

its a shortened version of the 110km Audax Tour of the Hills.
It is really well organised and for a good cause too - would make a great first sportive. Plenty of steep bits but not too long.--
Obsessed is just a word elephants use to describe the dedicated. http://markliversedge.blogspot.com0 -
whiterfold and whitedown are nice hills to climb whinterfold being a little steeper though it's less on average i think? i go out around there for clubruns and on my own so i'm unlikely to pay to ride on my doorstep as you where.0

Registration for this event has just opened and i have signed up for the 81km/1600mtr route
