I'm getting more into MTB riding and am actually starting to try the stuff I've previously just watched other people doing and thought "No Way" :D

After fitting DMR V8's, I've now got some intersting marks on my shins.
I've also taken a couple of comedy tumbles and now have 2 very sore knees.

I've decided to get some pads before I really do some proper damage!

I quite fancied some 661 Race Lite's but all the reviews I've read seem pretty negative.

What makes/models do you guys (and gals) recommend?

The 661 4x4 set half-way down my ad page:

They are not too heavy, have great straps so they feel really secure, and are really really comfortable to wear for several hours at a time.

I used these when I first started riding a few years ago and I felt exactly the same way as you do! They inspire a bit more confidence, especially with V8s! Before I got these pads my shins didn't look good.....I think I still have some V8 stud scars....

Let me know if you might want them and i'll sort something out for you.

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Do these protect the knees or are they just for shins?

RaceFace FR Knee and Shin pads :D My 1st pair of them and are amazing, straps dont restrict leg movement or cut off any vital blood supply (unlike my veggie knee pads). Only downside is that they do get a bit sweaty underneith though I got handy with the knife and cut a few slits into the foam to help breathability.

i've got some dainese shin/knee combos for rough stuff and some 661 veggie shin guards for general duties.

If it's just protection from shin tattoos then the veggies are ace.
  • iv got the 661 race lites and have found them comfortable and they really do save your knee and shins. they do feel a bit stiff to begin with but become a bit more flexible after a bit of riding. the straps are perfect length and the pads dont get hot. to be honest i barely know im riding with them. i really do reccomend them.

i also have some 661 race forearm pads and they are comfortable aswell. i found the straps to be a bit long on the pair i have but they dont slide down my arm at all.

i got the knee/shin pads for about £32 and the elbow pads for about £30 from a bike shop near me. Its a fair amount of money but they will protect well. Also 661 do make quality products.
I ride a Felt Compulsion 2 SE 2008 Mint Sauce Limited Edition and love it!!
