Hi All
This is the 1st time i've delved into the world of the road bike forum since I am at heart a trail forest type moutain goat/root avoider.
Now i've bought a Full Sus MTB am gonna sell the old Hard Tail MTB and am looking at road bikes...
Am new to the thin wheeled fast machines so it's all jargon at the mo (although MTB and road do share heaps)..
I recon I will get 350 for my hardtail as it's in great mechanical nick, and will probs put another bit of cash towards it.
It's gonna be used for long rides (say 30miles max on country roads) and going back and forward to work.
Will be looking at an August purchase..
Any recommendations?
Cheers guys... go easy now am not fully converting yet

Difficult to say - in August you should be able to pick up a 2009 bike cheap, so keep an eye out on the big online retailers.
Normally for £350 though I'd recommend 2nd hand - you'll pick up a little used 12 month old bike that originally cost £600-£700 if you look around. Or see if anyone wants to make a switch to the dark side and swap their roadie for your hardtail.Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0 -

that's a good point, cheers for that....
hang on I though you guys were the dark side
did a 25miler on my HT on sunday and was getting overtaken all the time by the roadies....no use for two MTBikes.....fancy a road also for long epic journeys
cheers for the advice it's appreciated.

I've ridden mtb's for years. Bought my first road bike a few months ago. I'll always prefer riding off road but needs must and I have to say I now love the road bike as well.
For what it's worth I went with a Trek 1.7 as it felt like quite upright ride so it didn't feel too alien to me. Cost me £925 but they do the same frame with cheaper components which might shave quite a bit off that.
2009 bikes can already be hard to come by if you are especially tall/short. As said above keep an eye out through online retailers.
And in my book any group that accepts male shaving can definitely consider itself the darkside!0
