I'm converting my 1990 vintage Marin Eldridge commuter into a fixie and need a new headset. I can't find a new, reasonably priced (£30ish), threaded 1 1/4" headset anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get a reducer so I can use a 1 1/8" headset?

The current headset has been in since new and I use the bike everyday - I've put new ball bearings in a few times but now it's definitely at the end of its life.

thanks

BETD Think you'll be hard pressed to find a decent 1 1/4" headset these days, especially threaded.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

pop into your LBS's and have a chat. you may be surprised what is in the back room.

reducers are easy to get as well. but then new headset and fork and possibly stem/quill etc etc...

Not positive but I believe some tandems are still built to use the 1 1/4" threaded HS. I know Dia Comp still makes one, Shimano maybe still sells the old Deore style in that size. I've seen a few on the U.S. Ebay site for around 20 quid or less new so I'm sure you could find one in the UK. http://shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=headse ... &_osacat=0 Do a google for 1 1/4" threaded headset. Should turn up some possibilities.
