Depends to some extent on the frame / fork / wheels, but at first sight, it does look pretty good for the money. The groupset alone would cost you £550.

    In the UK at £749

    - but you may or may not see it as it looks like it's only in certain UK regions, so it may depend what your store is set to...

In Northern Ireland at £799/Republic €899
    http://www.lidl.ie/IE/home_ni.nsf/pages ... acing_Bike

Full Ultegra triple groupo, including chainset, brakes, etc - no dliution with Tektro or FSA or 105 bits
    RS10 wheels
    PDR-540 pedals
    Selle Italia saddle
    Alu frame, carbon fork

Branded as 'Stratos', whatever that means it is underneath...
(that downtube is quite distinctive - looks like this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=26893, where Brand-X is CRC's own brand : presumably it's a Taiwanese frame from Merida or someone)

Buy in store, home delivery : so essentially you're buying a bike unseen just like you would on the internet and have to assemble it yourself at home and adjust the gears, etc, plus you won't get a bike-fit and won't have the back-up as if you bought it in your LBS.

I'd be tempted if I were in the market for an alu bike and had that sort of budget to spend, but I wonder who exactly will buy one ?
    - the sort of person who does their weekly grocery shop in Lidl isn't going to want to spend £750
    - most bike enthusiasts won't want a Lidl-brand bike
    - many newbies will be put-off by the home-assembly bit

Yeah, check the wheels firstand finishing kit (bars, stem, saddle and seat post). If you don't like the frame that much you could always get a Planet X one for 399 and sell that one.

You could buy an Orbea Aqua Mortirolo with Full Ultegra + RS20 wheels and for £999. You would say that is a £150 more but you get better wheels, most probably better finishing kit (the one in the orbea is their basic carbon kit) and a lifetime frame warranty.

You could say that, but you'd be wrong. It's £250 :?

Not to diss what seems a great barain, but Id dbe slightly concerned over fit. Seems to be only three sizes for what, looking at a by no means clear photo, may be a conventional ie horizontal top tube geometry...hmmm
    Fitter....healthier....more productive.....

Quality groupset, which is the most important criterium to choose a bike. Overall quite a heavy bike, which suggests old-technology frame and cheap wheels. Not necessarily a bad thing, one Kg more or less won't make much difference anyway.

If they offer a decent warranty and provided you like it (which is really the most important criterium)... go for it.

But don't expect much simpathy from your LBS when you need repairs... they'll probably be very snobbish about it...

Worth a go I'd say as you can always rescue the components. There would obviously be some risk buying un-seen.

abit over 8.85kg seems light to me? My CAAD9 is probably heavier than that!

My Genesis with Aksium wheels, 105 groupset, ultegra front mech weight in at just over 10kg.

The given weight is probably frame only.
And possibly unpainted at that, a common trick.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

My Specialized Alu/Carbon with Aksiums and 105 weighs 8.5Kg with pedals... and it's not exaclty a lightweight... a 8.8 Kg without pedals maens 9.1 with pedals, which, in 2009 is a bit on the heavy side, but as I said, if you've got good legs 1-2 Kg make no difference

8kg for a frame!! I think not. The weight seems fine to me given the reasonable components. It certainly looks like a Merida frame shape and thats no bad thing if they did make it.

I don't think it's that great. An Ultegra gruppo can be had for (I think) about 450, the wheels are just over 100. Which leaves 200 quid for a horizontal geometry ali frame of no repute and some dubious finishing kit.

    Non merci

I have to say I am not sure I would buy it, but I guess the proof of the pudding etc will be in how many they shift. The rest of their cycling stuff seems to fly off the shelves (and onto eBay shortly afterwards :? ). As far as sizing goes, it looks like a horizontal top tube, but it could be the perspective playing tricks with my mind.
