Went to a concept store looking to buy the Tricross Sport. But they had one more 2008 comp model and when I enquired, they could offer it to me for £900. As I want a triple, the store also offered to fit an Ultegra triple chainset for an extra £200
Is this a good deal?? should I go for it?

I have a 2008 comp and am very happy with it - except for the Avid Shorty 4 cantis that came standard - they are hopless no matter how much you adjust them - suffice to say Avid redesigned them since. I ditched them for Shimano BR550s cantis which are great and a recommended change. From late 2008 and since Specialized spec short arm Tektro v-brakes.
Not sure why you want a triple but the 34T / 28 / 25 low gears hardly ever get used on mine - in other words there is plenty low gearing there. Maybe try the double first - I see no need for a triple.
I would favor the comp over sport since the sport does not have the carbon seat stays and zertz damping.0 -
I'll eventually like to do LEJOG on this and I know it involves some mega hills which is why I want the triple. I guess you're right. Thing is if I wait to get the triple later, then I wouldn't be able to sell the double on ebay and prob wouldn't get the free fitting of the triple.
so the Zertz makes a big difference then! The main reason for me going for the comp is actually the wheels.0 -
Ultegra Triples can be got for a lot less than £200:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=11789Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0 -
So if I can haggle off £50 should I go for it?? How much do you think I can have off till it becomes a good deal0

So should I go for the bike for £900 and stick with the double or still upgrade to the triple? I used a hybrid and hardly ever used the smallest cog, but I've heard the hills around Cornwall are devlish and would def require a triple.
So get a triple for an extra £150 or stick to the double and save the £1500 -
I was going to post about the Roval high flange wheels - yes they are great. Strong, look good and mine have not shown any problems over quite a few 1,000km.
A friend used a Tricross Comp to tour (Zurich to Istanbul I think) with front and rear racks and paniers. He had some bad terrain - potholes, no road etc. - and the Tricross came through fine. He had a slightly out of true wheel after hitting a big hole he did not see coming.
I'd stick with the double - you can easily get a triple later. Hey even MTBs are going double now!
Zertz - I have not ridden a Sport but the Comp is very comfortable on long distances. I did swap the seat for a Phenom (get measured for the correct saddle width).0
