As the title says - I believe its national Bike Week.
What better excuse do we need to get out on the bikes? I'm creating my own personal event and aiming for a 5 day commute, usually only manage 3 or 4 (other commitments before the MTFU's start ) but all set for a week on the bike and looking forward to it! 8)

Went to the LB Waltham Forest event today in Walthamstow with the local LCC group. Good turnout though the tour de Waltham Forest Rides could have been better organised. The WFLCC did a questionnaire / survey which will inform a series of rides with councillors and planners / engineers who will all be on escorted bike rides in the borough to show the good, bad and ugly.
No surprises in the survey results Favourite rides are in the green parts of borough - Epping Forest, Lea Valley etc. Biggest problem was bad drivers / road surfaces. Biggest concerns in WF itself was maintenance of facilitities or poorly designed ones. No silver bullet answer to the One thing to improve - nearly everyone had more than one request but lots of calls for better maintenance, better police enforcement etc.
So, what are yolu guys doing different for bike week (if anything)?Pain is only weakness leaving the body0 -
Went to our local bike fest at Lydiard Park but it was a bit like the fair our of Father Ted - lots of stuff for kids but I got bored within 10 mins and did a training ride to the Cotswold Water Park instead
We're giving out free breakfast vouchers for commuters on Wednesday at the Tricentre from 07.00 to 09.000 -
I know on wednesday there is a Bike Breakfast in edinburgh - bacon roll and free bike check over. First 100 people get a free bike bottle I think.
I may be getting up special early to get a free bottle! :oops:0 -
I went to Quarry Bank Mill, Styal today . A guided tour of a 6mile cycle route around the village, managed by the national trust.
The route is OK, the good weather helped.
Edinburgh cycles were there, I got a free musette with a bottle, allen key set, sirius bar + catalogue , plus they were also lubing chains and doing adjustments for free.
Well done to Edinburgh Cycles for making the effort.

Ah ha! They are doing the edinburgh one! Loot! Btw is a musette one of those lightweight bags, like a cross between a rucsac and a plastic bag?
Also, what is a sirius bar? My best google gives me an energy bar... for dogs!0 -
How ironic as, due to work commitments, this will be perhaps the only week in the year where I don't pedal to work at all.

Work is giving free breakfast to first 100 cyclist so will be getting in nice and early for that on Wednesday.0

I've cheekily added this to my work signature for the week 8)

Blimey - where do you work where there are more thyan 100 cyclists? :shock:0 -
There's a bike breakfast tomorrow on Narrow St - leading to Canary Wharf
Last year was very good, real coffee and muffins.
Am considering leaving ten mins early to get loaded up on free stuff before work.
I'll be there circa 0815 tomorrow if anyone's around.Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.
What would Thora Hurd do?0 -

Correct about the musette ,wrong about the sirius bar :P
It's a cereal bar type thing, Aldi or Lidl sell them so they must be cheap, I'm trying to track some down.

They are having the same event up here in Aberdeen from 8am to 10am tomorrow.
after my weekend ride, my chain is so overdue for a clean and re-lube so will head there before work.
if anyone miss the event, there is a form you which you can complete and return back to your local store to receive that the free gift pack - Bike A Friend to Work*Cycling Essentials Gift Pack comprises a water bottle, multi tool and drawstring ruc sac worth in excess of £10 RRP as well as a copy of the Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op catalogue . Contents of the gift pack may change and are subject to availability."It is not impossible, its just improbable"

I'm very jealous of all your events, doesn't seem to be anything local to where I live / work. The girlfriend brought my lunch to the office today which was a bonus0

I had a chip thrown at me by some chavs on my way home, does that count? :roll:0

Tomorrow I get my free Breakfast but today there was a really good do on in Millenium Square, Leeds.
My Edingurgh Bicycle Cooperative Musette contained no energy bar but I did get the bottle, catalogue and the multitool (£4.95 rrp).
Stuff from the Leeds stand included
a nice laminated West Yorkshire Cycle route map
Leeds cycling map
A book on cycling to work (another 4.95 worth in theory!)
Fluorescent armband
Car stickers
Post it note pad
Pen
Car air freshner (!!!)
Key ring/bottle opener
Coaster (for putting mugs on - not a small ship)
And from Sustrans a bike computer!
Better than all that was the bike riding - I tried out a Brompton, 3 wheel recumbant, single front wheel trike (lots of two wheel action!), single rear wheel trike, mini Penny farthing (which was a laugh) and a wierd thing with a wheel under the saddle and a couple of castors at the front, steered by leaning on a pole above the castors - sort of looks like a half a wheelchair! Really good fun.
Finally, got the brakes and gears adjusted on the P7 for nowt and found out some good things about improvements to the cycle lanes on Kirkstall road. An excellent lunch time.Faster than a tent.......0 -
All I have to show for my support to cycle week is a visit from the fairy..

Your quite sure your didn't taste at all... marrowboney?
Got various bottles and musettes at the edinburgh one, as well as the ed bikes bag. Also stickers and the like. They fixed various things on my gf's bike as well as the clean, which was nice... 8)0 -
