Carrera Fury 09

Hey people!
Just after a little advice over a very rare (so it appears) bike, the Carrera Fury 09 model. The 08 model has been reviewed to hell and back and looks quite solid. I work at Halfords on the audio department and after scouring their internal systems I found a very few places stock them and would have to order it in!
So far i've found the specs to be:
Suntour SF9 Epicon LOD 15 (new 2009 model 100-120mm travel w/ lockout) Forks
Avid Juicy 3 Disc brakes
SRAM x5 shifters
Mavic XM-317 rims
I am guessing it be the same frame as the 08 model.
Could I ask if anyone has heard even a whisper of how good they are because its proving difficult, no1 at halfords have had much contact with them either. Im basically going to exchange the GT Aggressor XC1 09 i got which had faults all over it!
More importantly any1 know if the forks are any good? as not really heard of Suntour apart from the Banshee model which my mate has.
PS. i am yet to find an image of it too, its that rare!
Cheers for any info!

There was a picture of the 09 Fury on the Halfords website, press release section I think.
Supersonic posted it up the other day.
Looks nice in pearlescent white 8)
Dont know if the fork is a backwards step or not.
Price has certainly gone up.Why has my sig been removed by the admins???0 -
The fork is a little bit of an unknown. They do seem to have been advertising the fork in the magazines over here so I would imagine it's not that bad. Interesting to see that it has a 15mm bolt-through axle.
Rest of the bike spec is pretty good, if you can get it for a decent price it's hard to go wrong.0 -
Ah well done guys I do not know how I could not find any pics!
Anyway, its retailing at £599 but I can get it for £509 with my discount
I am tempted to order it in tomorrow from work.
Cheers!0 -
Hmm just noticed its priced at 499 on the press release but £599 when i printed the actual display ticket off at work earlier! Shall have to look into that0
-
fwiw, if i was going your route, i wouldn't hesitate to get a Fury with a tora 318 rather than take a punt on an unknown.0
-
You do have a point there. Only thing I got to go on is that my mates Banshee Epicon forks are quite good as he has done a lot of trails on them withstandin a lot of jumps.
But u are right, there are no reviews on the net about these newer forks at all.
Got a few days to make my mind up!0 -
Theres 20% of the 2008 furys at the minute, then you'd get the staff discount of that too if your quick.
What all has been goin wrong with your XC1 as i thought they where great, and we've had no problem with any we've sold. (Im a bikehutter)0 -

ahh well i tried the old reserve and collect discount with staff discount on top, they dont allow it
problems with the GT xc1, after many many hours of tryin to find what they were, are the front wheel is knackered and makes a very loud tinging nois when at a reasonable speed when the handle bar is moved even the slightest movement. Next is the back brake, very light breakin causes extreme howling noises followed by a violent shake of the frame yet full on break is ok...once i had been for a ride on it and stop and then carry on, the whole bike makes a high pitch squeel even when the bike is stationary and move it side to side.
Tried re-alignin the callipers etc.. tried a new wheel off the display model on the front end and almost solved the tinging noise. Our most experienced bike hut guy cudnt fix any of it either. I know the rims on this bike are weak but i have only done flat riding as lincoln isnt known for any hills!
After 4 weeks of this am at a loss as to how to fix it, im either goin to get another or a Fury.0 -

The bike squeels when its stationary?
Just sounds like the brakes arn't properly aligned or possibly a slightly bent rotor.
Bearings shouldnt have went in the wheels so quickly though.0 -

Well i ts prob a bent rotor as 4 people have tried realignin the callipers.
My manager wouldnt allow it, are u guys allowed? 35% would have been a steal!
Anyway i could have just got an unlucky one so im still battlin over what to do0 -
yea the squeeling thing had every1 baffled, just rocking it side to side and back and forth or just movin the handlebar while stood still caused it0
-

Well i've a staff discount card. If the till lets it go through - i'll be having it please.
By the sounds of ur bike, it needs an exercism!
(Although it still sounds to me like the breaks are rubbing...Perhaps the lever was pumped a few times before you put the wheel in, forcing the pads out a bit too far? Do the wheels turn 100% freely i.e. no noise/rubbing when on the stand?)0 -

yea after even the 1st realignment of the callipers they spin quite freely especially the back one. The front rotor does appear to wave in and out but only ever so slightly. sorry for the quotes, on my iphone on the train!0 -
Have you tried taking it down a good long steep hill pumping your brakes, trying to bed them in slightly?
Avids juicys can be slightly noisy at the start.0 -
not really, only a few hills in lincoln, but i have done a lot of ful on stops on slight inclines at pace as i put it down to bedding in at 1st. I was tempted to grind the pads down a little but i shudnt have to so i didnt lol0
-
The bike needs a good mechanic to service it.0
-
true but its only 4 weeks so i think i will take the option to exchange or get a fury 09. If i got another Gt i think i will be upgradin the shifters to sram x5 or something as that was one area i thought it wasnt great at. Also i may take it boxed and me and my mate will build it to suit my ride style as he has good knowledge on setting them up.
The ride it self is very good, i do like the fork as well, i dont suppose u know if the marzochi 33R's have the lockout ability? cant get any info online about them.0 -
If you put sram X5 shifters on the GT's you will need to replace the rear mech too.
Theres no way in this world that x5 shifters would be better than the deore shifters that come with the GT.
The more and more i hear/think about this - the more i think the bike hasnt been set up properly.
The forks on the XC1 dont have lockout. They are air forks, with rebound control.0 -
You are probs right about the set up, it was setup and out the door very quickly. I may just get another but get the most experienced guy to put it together.. or come to your halfords ha.
Cheers for all your help tho, its good to get other opinions on the problems0 -

Hey, ive decided to get a GT Agrressor XCR 09. Gonna find a bit more money to get it.
It seems to have a far better fork and rims seem to be stronger. Shall be usin it to get fit at 1st but i would ultimately like to start off roading more, so it should be ok for future!0 -
hi,
I have the xc1 09 and it really is great, bit weighty, but not fussed at this moment as it feels bulletproof!! Will get lighter parts as they wear/get more money.
I thought the fork on the xc1 was coil/oil?0 -

yo, yea i had the xc1 really nice ride but gonna exchange to xcr model.
The forks on the xc1 are air i beleive, they were really good but i am comparin to my old bike which is 6 years old marin.
forks on the xcr have lockout which will be useful for me.0 -
Really?! Just had a look and can't see anywhere to insert pump! Or am I being thick?!?0
