Got a topeak joe blow max II floor pump and not sure its working properly

when i connect the valve nothing happens on the gague until i pump then the needle goes all the way to over 100psi but i dont think this is right

when i went the lbs they said my tyres were really low 40psi and 80 psi

is there something im not doing right. do i have to do summin to the valve to make it take the air in properly? its a presta valve if that makes any difference

sorry for the really stupid question

Have you unscrewed the little bit on the valve (assuming its a presta) before connecting the pump?

Make sure you unscrew this, push all the way on - on mine you have to lift the lever once on there so its connected properly

I did the same thing when I got my first road bike not long ago, had never used a presta valve before

Hey andy83, I did the same as you a few weeks ago when I bought my JB track pump. Hadn't realised there were different types of valves or that my bike has Schrader ones

    Not such a stupid question!
I have the same pump and even with unscrewing the valve, air would not go in. Found that the presta was sticking and had to deflate slightly in order to pump it up again.

Ditto. Also, if you don't press the nossle far enough onto the valve it doesn't open the valve sufficiently to allow the air to pass.

Also - for reference, some of the track pumps have two way connectors on them, so that they will better fit the valve type. You need to make sure you have the connector the right way 'round.

(I did the same thing with a presta valve one time, but the pump tube shot off!)
