Bottom bracket working loose.

I have a Raliegh Glide which has done just over a hundred miles.
Since getting it the bottom bracked has worked loose twice. The first time so much that there was conciderable play in the cranks. The second, just enough for there to be a tinny click through the frame with every turn of the cranks.
The bearings are as far as I can tell ok and properly adjusted after tightening.
Is this something I will have to check regulary?

Something is not right, you shouldn't have to constantly adjust the BB.

If it's still under warranty back to the shop for them to fix.

what is the crankset/bb set up?

and if it is correctly fitted then you should not have to do anything.

They use the crappo style of BB (steel axle/bearings in a race/lock nuts), what normally happens is water gets in & the balls fall out of the cage on one side.
Take the crank off/bb out (leave driveside cup in) & check the bearings are ok, if so cover them in grease & reassemble making sure you lock the locknuts together nice & tight. Or even better replace it with a proper sized sealed bb.

Is this the 'was 320' quid bike from Halfords?

    Take it back.

IIRC the RRP is only £200, it's Halfords usual sale pricing tactic, inflate the price for a month (all legal) then drastically 'reduce' the price in the sales to make it look a bargain.

See if you can get a sealed BB out of halfords, they're much better than what you have at the mo

You can get a sealed BB for not many pennies, My Shimano hollow thing cost £25 I think. There are much cheaper ones available.

Might the fact that I have a child seat and 2.5 stone of daughter on the back make things worse?

Not really. The bike just needs that part sorting out and a good service it seems.
