Rear Shock Problem

I have a X Fusion 02RC rear shock fitted from new to a Specialized XC expert 2008. During a ride earlier today there was a loud creak from the rear end of the bike. The rebound dial and compression / lock out lever on the rear shock now have no affect on the suspension characteristics. The rear suspension now seems uncontrolled lots of pedal bob, no damping and it tops out on the slightest bumb. I cannot see any other damage to the bike. Any ideas what the problem is?

    i too have the same shock and am looking to upgrade it as its no the best after a few months of use. cheers Mark
