A family friend just rolled up on a brand new shiny bike. Was going to ask me for advice, but was such good value reduced from 300 quid he couldn't see how could go wrong. Paid 200 for an Apollo XC26 which looks like a monkey put it together.
Ah well. I suppose it will be fine for the few leisure miles he will do, but 300 quid? having a larf.

I have never seen any 320 quid bike with that spec, not even 10 years ago.0 -
And it appears to have a quill stem with a aheadset.0

Dare I add he bought the wife an Apollo full susser?!
If you are reading Chris, it aint you mate, it is Halfords pricing and them telling you it is 300 odd quids worth - for what you want the bikes will do the trick - just bring 'em round for servicing and I'll see if I have any lighter spare parts.0 -
Appollo bikes weigh an absolute tonne
Halfords cant be as bad as JJB Sports for selling bikes though
The bikes in JJB look even sh!tter :shock:0 -
i love the spec list of this bike.
it might as well say
chain - it has one
wheels - yep, those too
brakes - oh yeah, its got brakes.
forks - umm, those are the front bit right?0 -
We should have a Buying from Halfords sticky on the site advising potential customers of the Advantages/Disadvantages/Pitfalls of buying from this company. It doesn't need to be bias it just needs to be factual!
The consumer protection act needs to be revised in order to stop this sort of thing.
If they're not gonna do it then surely as a public forum we are morally obliged to inform and educate members as to the practices of the said company.0
