Wednesday am - visit from the PF, get to work change tube, ride home
Thursday am - tyre flat - pump it up as I don't have a spare tube ride to work, pump up again, ride home, strip the wheel, put the tube into the kitchen sink, not a bubble - replace tube, pump it up again
Friday am - flat again, pump it up ride to work, lunchtime go out and buy a new tube - go to ride home tyre is still fully inflated ?
Any ideas? My conclusion is that as I made a joke about LiT in her role as the deflation fairy
she has put a curse on my rear tube

Valve failure. Have had it happen myself. Take the old tube, inflate it and put a tight elastic band around the valve or clamp it off. If it doesnt deflate over a couple of hours its the valve.0 -

I agree - it appears to be the valve but the mystery is in that case why did the stay up? Having thought about this the only thing I can think is that I must have got dirt in the valve which prevented it closing properly and that soaking it in the sink go rid of it - its stayed up ok ever since :roll:0

Think yourself lucky.
I got a puncture yesterday in my car tyre (well, it was flat, there was a broken off screw in it, and although it didn't break to the inside of the tyre the air still got out), missus drove on it a bit, result, 130 squid for a new one, apparently driivng on it whilst flat might destroy the side wall.
Should we be replacing our bike tyres if we run on them whilst flat? They've got side walls right?0 -
You can sort of mangle them up a bit. Pushing them is generally okay though... I'd be more concerened about the wheels. :shock:0

Car tyre sidewalls are structural. Pretty sure bike ones aren't.
I've done the run flat thing too, and written the tyre off. When the bloke took it off, he showed me that there was a huge amount of rubber dust inside the tyre. Apparantly that was from the sidewall - it's a sort of surefire sign (not sure if by design) that the sidewall is now fooked.

Well Watson, however improbable, if the air is not coming out of a hole in the tube, it must be coming out of the valve.
A valve is just an o-ring pressed against a seat. During periods of tyre deflation, it is possible that grit or dust came betwixt the o-ring and the seat, and that it has taken some time to clear the surfaces sufficiently for the tube to remain inflated.0 -

I once, on a set of rims I didn't much value, cycled (slowly) about 3 miles on a flat front clincher. Precisely how I managed to stay upright, I don't know.

Well did 35km on it today no problem - must have been muck in the valve i guess - one thing I did notice - four dumped tubes at various places - take 'em home guys :roll:0
