Recommendation please for a helmet under £50 (male)

Just ordered a Giro Stylus from the Wiggle fairy but havent tried it on (obviously)

Is this a really bad idea?

Also any other recommendations under £50, I can still cancel the Giro and order something else.

NO HELMET DEBATERS PLEASE!

Edit to add - must be availiable in Red or Black as I aspire to matching Tartness

    Very, very bad idea .

I've got 5 helmets (searching for the perfect fit) , I ordered one off the net , but only after I went into a LBS and made sure I was buying the right size and it was comfy :)

You should be OK, I've got 3 Giro helmets, they tend to be a good fit.

I've got a giro, thought it fit ok until I tried a spec air force 3 on (£25) hmm, I think I'll be getting one of them soon.

Might be worth trying one on this weekend in a shop and canceling it if you don't like it

I use a Giro Indicator - peak is good to keep rain of if you wear glasses - you should be able to adjust the size - mine has a little wheel at the back

I think that each manufacturer uses the same set of moulds, so if a giro in a shop with Livestrong written on it and costing £150 fits, then the one you ordered will fit.

The risk in not trying first is that the correct size might look like this:

I tried several before I found one that fit me well - which was the Spesh Air-8. Really wouldn't recommend buying a lid, shoes, bike or anything else where fit is important on t'web.

You do realise you can buy several sizes of shoes/clothes from t'web, try them on for size, and return the ones that don't fit?
I bought a Kiron from Wiggle: 7 days on the road trial, return if unhappy. Try that at your LBS.

I do buy stuff from my LBS: sometimes the prices match the ones online, sometimes they have cheaper stuff, sometimes they are more expensive but they are in-stock and available *now*.

Yes, I am aware of that but, when I was looking for helmets and shoes recently, it wasn't about getting the right size, it was about getting a model that was the right shape at all. Besides, I find it much easier to visit a few LBS than deal with returning a large number of items that don't fit.

Regarding bikes, yes, what you describe sounds like good service, but the 18 mile test ride that my LBS arranged for me was sufficient for me to know whether the bike was a good fit...

FYI - if a helmet fits correctly you should be able to shake your head upside down without the straps done up and it should stay on your head. Never bought a helmet off the web always LBS.

not sure if mine would do that, though it's fairly snug so might well, but then i bought it to comply with Capital to Coast ride, as i don' use helmet otherwise.
