Tissington Trail on Road Bike?

We are going down to the Peak District for the weekend soon. We might be doing some or all of Tissington Trail but am just wondering whether my road bike will be suitable for it. I did the Tissington Trail some years ago on a hybrid and I recall it was a bit stoney in places and may be a bit rough for a road bike. I was therefore thinking of hiring a hybrid for the weekend rather than risk damaging my road bike.

Just wondered if anyone has any views/advice for me.

Why not hire a hard tail with slicks.....or even better borrow one :D

I've done it on my Spesh Tricross in the winter on 28mm tyres.... maybe putting some cyclocross tyres on your road bike and taking it easy ?

I have seen people do it on road bikes but with sturdy tyres, I would suggest a hybrid or MTB would be a better bet.

Interesting - I'm passing through that way next w/e and was considering using the TT for a while as a break from the roads. I've been on it before a few years ago but don't recall too clearly what it was like. So - a nice road bike on Mich Pro 3 Race tyres? Ok for a mile or three on the Tissington? In my head I think not, which would be a shame.

You should be fine. It was a while ago when I last rode it, but it was considerably better than many of the gravel roads I now ride on. I'd go for it - your bike won't melt on the gravel.

Just got back from a weekend up there, but on the hardtail as the kids wanted a ride out yesterday.

I've often ridden it on a road bike with Michelin Pro Race 23's on, along with the High Peak Trail. There are a few sections that get a bit rougher at the Parsley Hay end, but nothing to worry about.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

you can ride it on a roadie but I wouldn't take mine on there

If your going with kids then just hire a hardtail
