fitting shimano pedals

hi, i have just taken delivery of a trek 8000 fitted with xt crank. my mate reckons there should be a spacer/seal/thingy that goes between the crank arm and the pedal. i have had a look on the shimano web site but i cant find anything. should there be something or can i just fit the pedals. pedals are shimano m545. thanking you in advance for any replies.

Nah, they just screw straight in! Add some non lithium grease ie teflon bike grease, or even better, copalsip.
