Had a bike fitting session today with AW Cycles in Reading, who have given me a shortlist of bikes that will fit my body shape:

Trek 1.7 (£750)
Trek 1.9 (£950)
Ambrosio C96 http://www.awcycles.co.uk/category/bike ... index.aspx
Giant Defy 2.5 (£675)
Pinarello FP1 Sora (£1,200)
Wilier Mortirolo Mirage (£1,399)

Just keen to hear some thoughts on what to go for. My budget is around the £1k mark, but it's flexible (I don't want to be 6-12 months down the line wishing I'd spent another £1-200), so could stretch to the Wilier.

My initial thoughts are to shy away from the Giant and Trek 1.7 (I'll want to upgrade soon after buying), and the Pinarello (£1,200 seems a lot for an Alu frame with Sora), so it may be coming down to the Ambrosio, Trek and Wilier. I should probably add that I've paid £50 for the fitting, so would get this knocked off the cost of the bike, and would also get a 5% discount on the above prices, so keen to use AW Cycles for the bike.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Andy

FCN 3 or 4 on road depending on clothing
FCN 8 off road because I'm too old to go racing around.

my mate bought Trek 1.9 three months ago and is really happy with it...comfy ride, quick if needed, he does 50 mile trips and hasnt got any complaints.he has the triple and reckons its best to have it (see my dilemmas recorded elsewhere)

Personally I'd go for the Wilier Mortirolo Mirage (£1,399)

Thanks to all those who have posted opinions so far. I think I'm getting closer to a decision - I've ruled out the Giant, Trek 1.7 and Ambrosio (the Ambrosio looks fairly uninspiring and has also been in stock a while - it's 9 speed Ultegra etc).

That leaves the Trek 1.9, the Pinarello and the Wilier. I'm tempted to also rule out the Trek, as the Pinarello and Wilier seem to have better frames, and as I said above, I don't want to get 12 months down the line and wish I'd spent a bit more.

Pinarello - on the plus side, it's a lovely looking bike, and comes in around £200 less than the Wilier. Against is the Sora groupset. I can't help feeling that a bike in this price range deserves a better groupset.

Wilier - lovely bike, looks great, and has some very good reviews. It's also 10 speed, which makes gradual upgrades a little easier than moving from Sora 9 speed to 105 10 speed. The only thing against it is the price.....

I'm currently a clubruns/sportive rider, but am keen to get something that would be a good bike for racing/TTs in the future if I fancied it. With this in mind, is it worth spending the extra on the Wilier, or would the Pinarello be ok?

As a final note - I realise that there's no 'right' answer to this one. The reason I'm keen to get opinions is that I've never spent this much on a bike before, and so am keen not to make a mistake!

    Thanks

I brought a bottom of the range pinarello 8 years ago - never regretted it - stiff as hell - and the acceleration is breathtaking - because of the frame quality - its 8 years before I feel like a new bike - and even then - I just wonder if whatever I buy - will be quite as awesome.

My commuter has Sora - and it shifts pretty smooth - no problems in 3 years .........why don't you get a quote with tiagra or 105 ? - but really the frame is what makes a bike - I would go for the frame you like - you will forget about the gruppo pretty quickly
