Hi,
You could try the North/South downs.
Bedgebury is prob around 30 minutes away:

However Bedgebury is more a 'faimly' cycling place, the red route is more like a blue, defn. one for the hardtail. There is also some North shore and a small dirt jump run.
If you up for travelling a little more you could try Esher for some mad North Shore (maybe 30 mins away) or Swinley for a good mix of singletrack (45 mins away) If you go to Swinley hook up with a local as the trails are well hidden...
Anyway hopefully a few ideas for you.

Thanks!
for the love of god, why?!
not really, it's just that i've spent a chunk of time running from one platform to the other at the mecca that is east croydon train station, so i'm no great fan of that bit of the fair town!
i would second the South Downs... nearish i believe!Ned Flanders: “You were bicycling two abreast?”
Homer Simpson: “I wish. We were bicycling to a lake.”

If there's one thing about Croydon it's that you can get to some decent riding routes easily from East Croydon station. Jenny is right about the South Downs and there are various disused railways that make nice leisurely rides (eg Cuckoo Trail, Downs Link and the Worth Trail from Three Bridges)
But you're also quite near the Muddy Moles mob from er, the Mole Valley who do loads of stuff:
Try this: www.muddymoles.org.uk
You should find something there or even the Sussex Muddy@rse lot can point you where to ride around BrightonStart Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)
Current Weight:119 kilos (18.7 st) (June 18th 2009)
Target Weight: 92 kilos (14.5 st) (sometime mid-2010, hopefully sooner)0
