In Support of Chris Boardman & The Commitment That Halfo

TheScouser on an Italian
edited June 2009 in Road buying advice
This Goverment has really started what has so many times been started before(ILL CONCEIVED BRAINSTORMED IDEAS) from other quarters, and FLOUNDED,what about the state of our roads with all those additional cyclists?(or are we to be given PERMITS TO RIDE ON THE WALKWAYS!!!??).The Cycle to Work Scheme needs a gret deal more input and infrastructure than I at present have perceived.Halfords as a single company that dominates a sport/leisure sector of the market should; in my view be bending the ears of Ministers to impliment a CYCLE BUILD & MAINTENANCE QUALIFICATION perhaps an NVQ @ LEVELS 1:2:3& perhaps 4,level 4 being the language of the cycle to the public ear;to enable better communication between the parties(TRADE & RETAIL).Yes this could and will spill into the smaller and private sectors,to the benifit af all.I am a PAST SENIOR LECTURER & an NVQ D32/D33 SKILLS ASSESSOR in the furniture industry and I can vouch for the benifits to all that partake, provided the scheme has a tight reign kept on it and more important on those that inintially take up the challenge to learn.Enthusiasm wanes very rapidly if the support systems begins to faulter.
Hi,I am returnig to pedal power after a longish period of drying out my Vega+nail on plates. My first serious bike was a 1937 Hetchins Curly(track frame)My current rocket is a Bianchi Reparto Corse,Gold Race 600.A nice little Italian.

I think the Government need to concentrate on teaching basic spelling and punctuation first from the looks of it.

Somewhat worrying that a senior lecturer would have such a poor command of the English Language

I don't know - I couldn't understand what the hell one of my lecturers went on about and he was a professor.

  • Well slap my arse and take away my keypad. To all that have taken pleasure in pointing out my errors, also, to those yet to so do,DO I ASSUME or PRESUME that each and every one of you has a DEGREE in THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE.The body of my input was constructed in haste, before going out to put some wear & tear on my new metal knee,my short, fat & hairy legs protected by my denims & my hairy little arms covered with a jersey.People that live in glass houses and all of that!!,have you really examined some of your own inputs and more to the point, looked closer at some of the others. Long before my indiscretion and doubtless for a longer time to follow there will be plenty of opportunities to continue taking the piss.Oh, by the way,SCHOOLS have teachers not LECTURERS,and for the most part a Professor will be found at a UNIVERSITY or perhaps at a MEDICAL INSTITUTION.In the meantime please ignore my errors and concentrate on the points contained within the posting.

"level 4 being the language of the cycle to the public ear;to enable better communication between the parties(TRADE & RETAIL)."

    What did that mean?

So you think the roads and cycle ways are not up to the job ..You will more than likely find that most people will agree there!

And this training you speak of is it for the Halfords employees or for Joe Blogs in the street. I am confused as to what your on about mate. Take a deep breath and type slowly... :)

Halfords are reaping the rewards of selling many bikes - should they therefore be campaigning for improved facilities for road cyclists ?

You pays yer money, you takes yer choice. I don't think qualifications have anything to do with a good service or finding people to do a competent job on a bike.
