Gutter hugger knocked me off

Idiot took my front wheel out and did to even stop to see if I was ok.

Coming down to Cornhill, where road spilts left to Queen Victoria Street or straight on up Poultry.

I was going left, faster and overtaking the the gutter hugger on the inside who also looked like he was going left, but at the last minute cuts across me and takes out my front wheel with his rear.

Partly my fault as I should have anticipated the incompetent fool pulling a stupid stunt like that - but the nodder did not even stop to see if I was ok. Or if the girl who came off running into the back of me was ok.

Anyway. Bike is ok. Back feels a little wrenched, left hip is sore and will bruise, nice bruise on inside of calf from pedals and a little weeping road rash on my left elbow.

Head bounced off road inside helmet.

Did what is was designed to do...was going less than 15mph, probably closer to 10mph and instead of head hitting road helmet hit it instead.

Off to buy a new one of those at lunchtime.

First off in 3 years.....third in 7.

overtaking the the gutter hugger on the inside

you were undertaking him, or overtaking him as he was on the inside?

Undertaking? Bad luck on the prang but I'd not be expecting another cyclist to undertake*

*not that anyone ever passes me of course
  • I was overtaking him......never undertake! He was on my inside and cut right across the front of me.

Exactly why I give anyone who looks like a newbie a wide berth - folk can be v unpredictable, I've noticed a lot of cyclists not indicating as well recently.

Bad luck fella, the twunt could've had the decency to stop.

Agreed. If a car was overtaking you how much space would you like them to give you? At least a metre, probably more. The same applies if it's a bike doing the overtaking. You need a biit of elbow room for the unexpected.
  • Ouch - hope you're ok fella.
