MTB Routes - York

Anyone know of any descent reasonably challenging routes in this area, me and a few mates are always on the look out for somewhere new to ride.

Preferably something with a pretty quick single track downhill section, the climb to get too it is not a worry :) .

    castle howards woods and the surrounding area if you dont have any transport you could always get a train from york to malton and ride out from there

    York is pretty flat to say the least so downhills are a little tricky to find as are climbs of any length other than climbing over either the ring road or the railway! In the immediate vicinity of York there are some bridleways, some are farm tracks, some are rougher than that and you can link them together to make pleasant but not particularly challenging riding. As birchy says, travelling out of York is really what's needed.
