hi RichR2,
On-One carbon rigid? Nuke Proof carbon? both under £200.
arguably two of the best carbon rigid forks knocking about at the mo.

Those Nuke Proof carbons look very tasty. I'm going to fit some to one of my bikes - the bike I use for the trails. I reckon they'd be a bit hardcore for racing though!RichR2 wrote:Anyone recomend any particularly great buys?
How about:
RockShox Tora 302
http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ ... solo-10420
Or Marzocchi MX Pro:

I don't have personal experience of these, but Radar seem to rate them. I think the Tora are more popular though."Money can't buy you happiness but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery." Spike Milligan.0 -

I'd take Maguras at that price - Durins are lighter & stiffer than Toras, I believe, and less 'common'
BUT, I just dropped slightly over 200 on a set of can't-tell-their-not-new Mavericks, including a well built Mavic 717 front wheel and they are absolutely superb! Truly awesome - and I don't band that term around like a wannabe snow-boarder, neither...!
They're 120mm travel but with a travel-drop dial to 80ish (feels a little longer to me) and quite a low stack height so you can run them on a 100mm-friendly frame without messing anything up.
I think I love them
I should have a job in their PR dept!WTD:

Recon SL for £175?
http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/marzocchi ... on-sl.html
thinking about getting some carbon rigids for mine, not sure which is best really, the on-one which would match my white bike or the stealthy nuke proof which i do like the look of too hmm. there's also the white bros rigid which looks like maybe the same fork as the nuke-proof?0 -
The Recon sl's look like a good deal. Anyone any comments/experience of those?0

WHat bike is it for? What riding? What travel?
magura Durin for 200 quid?! Stiffer than a Tora - no way!0 -
Going on a Claude Butler Cape Wrath Frame for general XC riding, nothing extreme or mountainous. Travel 100mm0
-
I'd go for a Tora Race or Tora 318 air (can get the latter for 120 quid from Parkers of Bolton). Or 146 quid from JE James with uncut steerer.
A little heavier than the Recon, but better internals and damper.0 -

The Pace RC31 gets quite good reviews too, and it's lighter than the Nuke Proof, but only by a little:

The On-One weighs the most out of this selection. I think that White Bros one is the second lightest - looks quite tasty too. I'll be running it with V-brakes though so I may need to use the Pace conversion kit, unless I go for Nuke Bros who offer a v-brake option. A few of the carbon forks are actually the same.
If wanting carbon, take a look at this also:

Were 85 quid on ebay.0 -
read a few worrying things about the rc31, a few failures at the crown/steerer and when dt took them over re-naming it to the xrr? it was failing tests so has been withdrawn. shame cos the the dt xrr looks the dogs.
read about the dt here,

Thanks for the link, those look pretty nice. They also supply my requirements for a 425mm length and v-brake bosses (I would be fitting them to a '99 bike designed for 80mm travel). Can't seem to find the Nukes in those specs. Manufacturers are increasingly less accommodating for the old-skool v-brake weight weenies like me :?dunker wrote:read a few worrying things about the rc31, a few failures at the crown/steerer and when dt took them over re-naming it to the xrr? it was failing tests so has been withdrawn. shame cos the the dt xrr looks the dogs.
I wondered why I couldn't find them for sale anywhere! Think I'll give those a miss then. Looks like CarbonCycles are the front runners for me so far..."Money can't buy you happiness but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery." Spike Milligan.0 -
Here's Tora Race 2009 for £180. Damn cheap.
http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/rockshox ... c=shopwiki
But it doesn't look like that, it looks like this, and I'm not sure than that one has V-mounts.

I have the Nukeproof carbons on my Kona SS. It's a quality product, so light when you take it out the box but has stood up to some abuse. I didnt believe it would, but it does elminate a bit of trail "buzz". Plus I got mine for 85 on ebay. Bargain0

That'll be the Odur then, my bcd!
I just can't stomach the lumbering weight of the Toras, surely they just throw the bike out of balance?
Tidy pair of second hand Rebas might be a good bet. Or maybe a tidy second hand pair of Durins...WTD:

Toras vary so much - my 130mm air version is just 4.35lbs and the 100mm Race just 4.26. The latter is lighter than even the lightest Odur.0

Really? That's mad, I just saw the 5&1/2lb jobbies and ran a mile! Have to find out more, and maybe stop being so mean about them
Still pushing a second hand set of Maverick SC32s though, they make more sense financially (so long as they come with a wheel) as they're a dead-easy home service and soooo tuneable...WTD:

+1 for the 318 Tora airs..excellent value forks and pretty tough, stiff but not too heavy. Good compromise. Got mine for £140ish from Merlin with poploc.0
