Brilliant, unbiased, well formed....are all words your article is exempt from. Chief sports reporter eh, you must have pictures of the editor in compromising positions.

Sadly, some validity of his points about the TV channel it was shown on and scheduling an event that closes down a city centre on its busiest shopping night.

Is there any poxy local paper in existence that hasn't run some crappy self-consciously controversial 'opinion' piece ranting about cyclists at some point?

Ar*ehole - you just know he's sat there with a big pleased smile on his 'most-probably-soon-to-be-made-redundant-due-to-major-cutbacks' face. It's no bloody wonder newspapers are on the bones of their ar*es.

So not everyone likes cycle racing. Big deal.

The format of team racing is irritating to me, probably incomprehensible to the man in the street who finds it strange that although A crossed the line first the race was won by team Whatsit because they had three riders in the top 10.

Keep it simple, for fcuk sake.

He can't write and clearly knows nothing about professional cycling, so maybe he should jack in print journalism. He does however have the perfect face for radio....

As someone who grew up and lived for many years in Peterborough, I frequently read 'Swanny's World of Sport' in the Evening Telegraph. He's just a wind-up merchant. He was having a go at cycling because the event was run the previous week (nice bit of lazy journalism), next week he'll move on to something else, having a go at it with the same tired old format.

This column is supposed to be controversial, to spark a bit of debate, and probably to keep him from getting bored - not a great deal happens in Peterborough. It's only a local paper read by people who know well enough not to take him seriously.

He is a better journalist than this, as his match reports for Peterborough United show, but not much.

The paper as a whole was supportive of the event, running a piece about how local businesses though it was a good idea despite any disruption:

Although they don't seem to have done a decent write-up on the race (not on the on-line version anyway)

Probably just a column to keep him ticking over in the off-season whilst the Posh don't have any fixtures to report on?

Oh, he's not averse to having a go at the Posh too, whatever the easiest target is so he can be down the pub ASAP...

Oh, and don't take much stock of the 'Chief Sports Writer' tag, this is a local paper we're talking about. There's the Sports Editor and this guy, that's pretty much the lot.

Nobody reads it anyway. Their circulation goes up on Wednesday, when they have the property pages, and on a Thursday when they have the jobs, the rest of the time it's just cats stuck up trees and chip shops not getting planning permission.

Hmm - the Private Eye epithet 'Lunchtime O'Booze' springs to mind.....

Local papers, though - don't you just love 'em?

Can't help thinking he wrote this just to get a reaction from cyclists.

No-one can be that stupid, ill informed and down right rude about sport in general, nevermind cycling.

I get the impression he drives everywhere and gets upset when he sees that cyclists can actually get around quicker than him.

He's clearly just flaming and trying to be controversial but not the sort of thing you'd expect from a supposed Chief Sports Reporter
