Havin a chippy tea tonight for the first time in ages, don't fancy my normal battered sausage after watching last night ashes to ashes

So any suggestions? I live far enough from london to be able to get curry sauce or mushy peas :D

    Chilli, cheese and Chips....

Or just cheese and chips - melted under the grill..... Oh God. I'm hungry now.

Since it was introduced by Icelandic fishermen during the "Cod wars", so that we thought they like it so much it must be worth fighting for, meanwhile, whilst we were distracted, they thieved all the lovely, tasty Haddock, which as everyone knows, is the most noble of the sea-dwelling foodstuffs.

I'm drowning in my own saliva.

If beyond the gravy line then

Steak and Kidney Pudding, Chips, Peas and Gravy. Is a shoe in.

If Dahn Sarf your options are limited as southerners don't dig sauce.

Haddock, chips, peas and pickled egg is about as good as it gets.

perhaps a battered sausage (with vinegar) as an appetizer.

    I'm so hungry I could cry. But i won't as I'm nails.

    Search for poutine.

It sounds a lot more cosmopolitan than what it is (chips, curd cheese and thick chicken gravy - a French Canadian "delicacy").

Screw the sauce embargo. I'll make it my damn self.

Battered sausage with vinegar = work of genius. You can also pop some vinegar on your burger bun.... mmmmmmm slightly vinegar-y burger...

Oh and it has to be malt vinegar. Preferably sarson's. None of this white vinegar b*llocks.

I'm going to go crazy and suggest scampi. No idea why - can't remember when I ordered it from a chippy.

Apparently it tastes significantly better and makes you more attractive when you throw each one in the air and catch them in your mouth*.

Points are also added for doing this while holding the chips casually open in one hand.

We used to pour the vinegar from the finished big pickled onion jars into the standard vinegar bottles as an alternative choice. MMMMMMmmmmm I loved the onion vinegar!!!

(yes I used to work in a chippy)
(yes I was greasy and a bit smelly most of the time)

Haddock and chips every time. But only if cooked in lard like in a proper chippy. None of this poncy vegetable oil nonsense, it spoils the taste of everything - I never eat fish and chips in this part of the world!

Alternatively, chips and curry sauce, as served by all the best Chinese restaurants :-)

    Damn I'm hungry !

Anyone had a rissole? I dig them when in Wales.

I also dig chicken & mushroom pie...place upside down, make small hole and fill with sarsons for an intense vinegar experience, followed by the taste of 'chicken' and 'mushroom' and other 'matter' plus non-descript gungy interface between gloppy MSG snot-like sauce and pastry. Lush!

  • I was in Scotland the other week and was in a chippy with nearly all the usual options (black pudding, white pudding, haggis, spicy sausage, but no mars bars). They even did two sorts of deep fried pizza - plain (where the base soaks up all the fat) and crunchy where they batter it first. :o

In the end I had mixed kebab meat chips and curry sauce, it was nice a bit greasy tho. I blame the chicken and chicken tikka meat.

I can heartily recommend the doner meat chips and curry sauce option, lovely :D
