Hi everyone,

I'm a complete novice planning to tour the UK, has anyone got any essential packing lists?
I have no idea what to pack, and am a big guy so I need a light tent, sleeping bag etc.

ANY advice would be wonderful

Thanks

Lay out everything you think you'll need, get rid of the unessential stuff then halve what is left and you'll be about there.
    Tent
Sleeping bag Pick your temp range to suit. Top rule any fool can be uncomfortable.
You need to stay warm, clean and dry. So clothing, washkit and your camping kit are your only essentials. And money of course. Buy the best you can afford it pays dividends in the end.

Wash1 wear1 and dry1 is the rule for shorts etc. I find 1pr of shoes (which I ride in) are enough with lightweight overshoes. Weigh all your clothes and take the lightest/thinnest as they will dry quicker. Consider how you will stay warm in the evening at the campsite. (go down the pub??/ will you need lights??). Keeping stuff dry is essential. Good Ortlieb type panniers and everything in carrier bags. A bar bag for maps, money, camera etc can be kept dry with a large carrier bag over the whole thing when it rains.
We tour by tandem staying in hotels and carry everything in 2 rear and 2 front panniers (for 2 of us). If it does not fit in it says behind!
