hi
iv finally narrowed my choices down to two bikes

a specialized rockhopper (the standard issue)

or the marin northside trail (i think there 's only the one version)

i know i should test ride them but i just want to know technically which is the better bike .

the guy in the lbs told me that the marin has a better frame but other parts not as good as the spesh.

also the marin is orange which i think is a plus

and do you think its worth waiting for the 2010 line to come out?

thanks

    Hello and welcome,

there's not a great deal to choose between the spec of the two bikes, maybe spesh just edges it (but being a spesh owner i am in no way biased  )

I will tell you what everyone else on here will say, go and try both of them because although you like the look of them, doesn't mean you will like the feel of them.

The Marin is built for harder riding. But there is no value there. Unless it clicks with you, I would avoid. Awful fork.

Nope. If you like it, go with it. You may or may not get anything off of it if it's a popular model. Also, if you don't have a bike at all, you'd be missing out on riding :)

I don't see the point of waiting - do you mean to get a cheaper price on the 2009 model, or to see if they change the specs? As Ditch Witch mentions, it's a popular bike and likely to be a good seller, and it's normally the odd frame sizes that make it to the sales.

Either way, I'd buy it now! The Rockhopper is an absolute classic, been around in one form or another since the 80s (showing my age now).
