Hi all.

I'm wanting to buy one of these flashlights but there are so many different models and I'm not sure which accessories I need.

Is this the correct flashlight that everyone around here is talking about?

I noticed they do a 2-mode and 8-mode version, which is better?
I'm thinking the 8-mode might be annoying and I doubt I'll need it.

Are these the correct batteries and charger?

Which mounts will I need to mount it to my handlebar and my helmet (Giro Xen)?

I'd like to buy everything from DealExtreme if possible.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Yeah they are the ones ive ordered (i think!)
There were lots of different styles of lens on the torches.

    The batteries are correct too.
I think you will just need to buy a 'shaver' plug adapter for the charger.

I ordered a 'twofish' handlebar mount, one may fit on ur helmet too?

    I'd go for the 12623.

They are the right batteries. Charger is basic, you may want a better one thatn that.

Correct on all counts,re:batteries, charger and light.2 mode is all you need for off road use.I might be tempted by the 5 mode if you do more road riding for the choice of intermediate settings, but off road its very easy to toggle between high and low.
I have a Fenix mount for my bars and an inline vlecro/rubber mount from DX for a helmet mount, but I used an old Catye light mount with 2 zippties for a while which worked fine.
Don`t forget an adpator for the charger plug!

    Thanks guys.

    I think I'll get this mount for the bike;
    http://www.fenixtorch.co.uk/led_torches/lockblock.html

    And this mount for the helmet;

I've added the adapter now too.

I can't believe how cheap these are. I'll probably buy another if I like it. :)

No don't the lockblock flaps about, id use two jubilee clips and some inner tube on the bike, and for the block for your helmet use the universal one you posted up, it's larger and better than the lockblock, i use it for my c1 on my giro and it fits a treat.

As for the charger use this one, it has an adaptor on the side should you fancy charging though the car as well, you don't need to use the lead supplied, just use a lead with the same end, usually used in various home appliances.

Did you look at the new dealextreme bike light? Don't know if it's as good an option but on paper it's pretty cool...

According to the guy who makes the battery packs etc the 2-mode torch could prove more reliable than the 5-mode, something to do with the circuitry. I understood about 1 word in 4 but the gist of it was 2-mode good.

It's more down to the 2 mode being able to power the p7 better than the 5 mode, better quality wiring and fewer dips/resistors i believe.

As for the bike light id steer clear for now, it's too shoddy id wait it out a better one is bound to come along.

Has anyone else had problems accessing http://www.dealextreme.com/ recently?

Sometimes the website seems completely down... I managed to order the light eventually today after several attempts.
Right now it's completely down again. :?:

Just saw Trout on STW, who's been making first class DIY lights for a while, just disected and reviewed the DX bike light:

Very interesting, cheers for the link Northwind.
I must admit I was very curious about that light. From what Trout says, the biggest problem seems to be the heat generated by the light, and by the charger. Bit worrying!

Will be interesting to see the beam pictures if he uploads some.

Will be good to hear some proper reviews of the DX light from actual users. If views are positive, then it is something to consider for the future.

Im still waiting for my MTE p7 torch to be delivered, but apparently it is en-route.

Thing is, my DX P7 will get hot enough to burn skin if it's not cooled- I left it running at full power for an hour in an unvented warm room, pretty brutal). Very very hot. But, it didn't melt, and more importantly it never gets remotely hot on the trails, since it has a constant excellent airflow. I don;t really think that static testing is very useful other than for what he was doing at first - checking that it was heatsinking. The charger thing isn't so good though.

These DX things make pretty terrible torches btw :)
