Courteous drivers - no really!

Scenario, usual commute to work, due to the weather I had leant on it a bit more than usual prior to my worst uphill stretch, so speed was down, lost of traffic coming the other way, can here a heavy Diesel grinding away behind me.....

However he stays there, I can't pull over (just grass verge and brambles) so I keep going but know I'm holding him up, farm entrance comes up so I pull in and stop, Bus driver gives me a cheery thank you wave as he accelerates past and then so do cars 2 and 3 behind him (number 1 may have been too close to see me pull over), kind of restored my faith in drivers after all the slagging off on here - there are some good ones out there.

As LiT says +1, if you think about the amount of cars you pass each day on your commute (more so for town drivers) and then think you only remember the 5-10% of drivers that try to run you over it does mean that 90% are decent drivers!

I've had many occasions where I've been surprised by courteous drivers and will always try and give them a thumbs up or nod to acknowledge them :-D

Agreed, however coming close to losing your life or being injured through someone elses stupidity, impatience, bad driving, tends to focus the mind on the stupid, the impatient, and on plain bad driving.

Yesterday I did the Norwich 100, 100 lovely miles in the June sunshine. Well actually 100 freezing cold, wind and rain lashed miles. There had been some numpties passing too close but generally el Motorist had been well behaved. Last 10 miles back into Norwich it's P!ssing with rain, a long line of cyclist, the road is wide enough for 3 cars, and yet I had one driver in a Golf GTI (no real surprise here) attempt to overtake me and several other cyclists, panics because there is a car coming the other way, and then proceeds to try to squeeze us into the kerb. Needless to say my language was a little less than Christian ! My point is that I remember that incident, but don't remember all the other polite and patient motorists.

Same again - I try to give a thumbs up or a wave if people have been especially courteous.
