Tyre air loss

I normally replcae inner tubes when the've ha a couple of punctures punctures repaired.
This time I splashed on a couple of Continental tubes instead of the Decathlon cheepies.
I now find that the Continentals lose air at about 10lbs each week (from 40lbs). It took the Decathlons about a couple or months or more to lose this amount.
Is the some black art to getting tyres to retain air that I'm missing?
If the only answer you have is to go tubless, don't bother to reply.
Thanx

Have you checked the valves are screwed in tight - common source of slow air loss.
