Hi all, am after some mudguards for my road bike for the daily commute but it doenst have any eyelets, what are my options? was thinking of getting (infact already have for mountain bike) crud style seatpost mounted for the rear (have a cyraguard as well) but what about the front? or is there any thing else i should consider?

Dont really ride in heavy rain as i also have a motor bike for work so if its raining in the morning i go on that, its more for the times i get caught out or on the way home etc.

Thanks

It depends on what clearances you have on your road bike. I managed to get SKS Chromoplastic mudguards on my Giant TCR2 (which was definitely NOT designed to take guards) using 'P-Clips' and a bit of fiddling to ensure there was no rubbing of guards against tyre.

No trouble at all now, no rubbing or noise and I'm really pleased with the results.

So, 'P-Clips', I got mine from Stagonset and they are available at many different diameters here http://www.stagonset.co.uk/fasteners/prm_grp/A2_PClip_RbbrLnd/summit/Stainless%7CSteel%7CRubber%7CLined%7CP%7CClipscz.html

    SKS Race guards:

I use them on my hybrid and road bikes with great results. No need for eyelets as the fix to the fork or stays using rubber ties. Normally about £30 i think from usual places

Race Blades are the solution if you can't get full guards on, but they're a pretty poor 2nd place I reckon.
  • Just had a look on CRC and wiggle at the SKS Guards, i like the idea of being able to stick them on quickly when i need them so the race blades seem to be the way forward i think

    Thanks for the guidance

p clips on the stays, bolt to the fork crown and good strong cable ties elsewhere. If you click on my blog below the Specialized has had that treatment and it works perfectly , they never wobble or move about.

I added a small strip of electrical tape & rubber under the guards.ties to stop any paintwork damage

Yes, don't automatically ingore the P-Clip and full guards option, it's worth investigating. Full guards will do a far better job of keeping the crap of your brakes, too. IF there's no way you can get full guards on, then Race Blades are the next best thing.

In addition to the P-clips for full mudguards get some of these Sheldon Fender Nuts to make mounting and removing the guards easier.

Same thing available from a UK based shop here - http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-Thor ... -13266.htm
  • ok thanks V much for the feedback, will look into the full guards perhaps as its a commuter only and am loosing my secure parking due to a building move so may need something that the scum bags cant just whip off
