Holiday insurance

I'm off on a week's cycling in the Alps in a few weeks time, ending in the Marmotte. I'm just looking at travel insurance. I've looked at confused.com and there's a whole range of options, but I'm wondering about two specific things:
1) I need my bike to be insured in transit - does anyone know any particular policies that will cover this?
2) I figure that there is particular insurance for the Marmotte, but given that I am going to be going specifically to be riding on a multi-day holiday, will a standard insurance policy cover/allow this?

Or perhaps others in similar situations haven't bothered with particular insurance and have just relied on their EHIC?

Check your house insurance. My bike is covered anywhere in the world.

I'd avoid the CTC Insurance. I took out cover for a training camp in February 2007 and 4 weeks later fractured my elbow and stuffed my ankle on an oil spill.

Despite my cancellation claim being obvious, they spent ages fannying around wanting more evidence/copies of the paperwork and in the end I was forced to issue a pre-action letter giving notice of procedings. They then paid within 49 hours.
