Are Assos worth the money or is anything else as good?

I'm new to cycling and asked my lbs to get me some good apparel as he didn't have anything big enough. Anyway when they came in I was a bit surprised by the price but did get them. They are Assos F1 Mille S5 bib shorts and Assos top. I'm now looking for a 2nd outfit and was wondering if there's any other quality makes I should consider. Thanks in advance.

Gore Bikewear is very good IMO.

You made the right choice. You won't find any other make as comfortable as Assos. Or as hard wearing.

From what i've read on here nothing is as good as Assos bibs. However my pockets are to deep to get any so none for me yet....

Yet again! This comes up every few weeks; yes of course there are other brands like the top end Giordana and Castelli stuff (both brand do several ranges of kit that are differently priced) which is just as good as assos, but their top end kit is also the same kind of money as the assos kit, so I guess you would expect it to perform similarly. You've got to compare like with like though. If you go for a mid-price brand it can't compete with the top end stuff, but it's not meant to - the mid-price stuff still gets good reviews, 'cos it performs well for the money..

This debate will soon be amongst the untouchables: Campag vs Shimano; helmet vs no helmet; ipod vs no ipod...etc

....and I've played my part in it!

    Just opportunity cost.

If you've already been kitted out in Assos; why not save it for longer/special rides? I have a pair of Assos shorts and have not regretted the cost, but I certainly have other 'less desirable' gear. Which certainly makes me appreciate the Assos so much more on the weekend!!

That said, if I had the money.....
