I’ve watched it a few times, he was looking at the 2 people at the bus stop, he was probably making sure they didn't move, he looks up in shock when he realises he's heading straight for another cyclist.

Going too quickly, not paying attention.

Did seem to lock his rear too, while trying to turn away. He would have made it if he had used the correct brake lever or perhaps not braked at all.
    ... and no idea ...

And the other rider? Bombing thro' a narrow(ish) gap between the pedestrians and the hedge and failing to move back over to his left, apparently oblivious to the oncoming rider?

I'm pretty certain AllTheGear was talking about the 'other' rider. In the slow-mo you can clearly see his rear wheel is snaking around and doing absolutely nothing to slow him down.

I was talking about the oncoming rider locking up - thanks Brun. I think there's a bit of joint responsibility here, the oncoming rider got surprised and lost control, therefore certainly was riding too fast for the conditions and his skill. But also the camera bike was moving, towards what was clearly a pinch-point with pedestrians in the way. Camera guy did slow down though, although only during/after the near miss with the first oncoming rider.

    Actually - doesn't this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrQA_Q88 ... re=channel

show it from the other way?

Now you can see how poorly sighted the approach is. Which IMHO points the finger of blame squarely at the oncoming guy. He should know how bad that bit is and slowed right down accordingly.

so it's a blind spot, so slow to a speed that you can see?

I can't see how this was the helmet cam guy's fault at all. He's not going at an unreasonable speed and the guy coming the other way just looses the plot.

In terms of slowing down so you can see far enough ahead - I think he was stationary by the time the guy cycled into him. I am not sure what else he could have been expected to do.

Clearly the layout 'encourages' oncoming bikes (going too fast) to run wide as they pass the bst stop over to teh opposite kerb, not cam mans fault at all, its ironic that had cam man been 2 seconds earlier the first guy would have taken him down instead!

um i guess i should have been clear, in that the cam guy didn't seem to be a fault, the other was too wide and too fast.
