Travel guides?

So, i have done a few tours before, mainly France and a few days in Spain and i have always carried a travel guide, mainly the Rough Guides eg. France and The Pyrenees. On occasion, they have been invaluable but are they essential? The Rough Guide to France is quite weighty and on my first tour i ripped the sections out that were relevant to where i was touring. This year i'm off to Spain for three weeks and am seriously thinking of not bothering with a guide book, should make it a bit more adventurous.

Do you take a guide book when on tour?

No. I get my information from the local tourist office on tour. In Spain the tourist offices will have information for the province they are in only, so when you cross into another province you will need to call in at the first office you come across and restock on information. You can then dispose of the old and unused info.
