Advise please, I rode to Woking & back on Tuesday from Fleet but had to do 12miles on road before the canal towpath ..

Any suggestion of routes to Greywell/Nately Scures from Basing/Basingstoke area all offroad :?: Greywell tunnel is where the canal starts

It means doing a ride out Ash/Aldershot way

I don't think there's a route out of Basingstoke to the canal which is entirely off-road, but the best route I've found is out through eastrop park, basing road and then through old basing.......

(Note you need to cut through the underpass footpaths to avoid major roundabouts/roads before you get out of town)

It's only about 4 miles to the start of the towpath. You can pick up the canal at Up Nately for a 1/2 mile or so before you have to climb over the hill to rejoin it at Greywell (the Greywell tunnel is closed cos it's a habitat for endangered bats or something!!)

Pete, That's really useful.. I rode to Woking & back last week along the canal.. it was ok.

It was a on road to get to Fleet and then on the way back came off at Hook .. needed to get to Beech Hill and I know off road from Basingstoke but not from Basingstoke to canal offroad. Thanks for the link. :)
