Help, advice needed on new bike purchase.

Hi all, not been around for a very long time,

I'm posting on behalf of my Brother. He has been given some Love2shop vouchers and would like to spend between £500 and £1000 on a mountain bike.

It would appear Halfords is on the redeemer list, so a bike has to be bought from there.

Bike to be used for road cycling only, rider is 6 foot tall and weighs approx. 18 stone.

What bikes do you recommend from Halfords and why?

If bike is for road riding only does he need a mountain bike?

Thanks for your reply, we are looking only at MTB's.

This is mainly due to the weight of the rider, so strong components are needed, would any make other than Boardman do the job, for example GT?

Oh yeah, I didnt notice his weight... :oops:

Carrera Fury is a very good mtb for the heavier rider...very strong frame and very good spec.

GT and Kona do some good bikes, but in my opinion the spec is sometimes a bit lower than some bikes of the same price.

GT Aggressor XCR looks nice tho.

Boardmans are all really good. Pro is fantastic, absolute bargain! Ive got the Sport (the cheapest one, and its great).

But the Boardmans are all very light...im 14 stone, and its fine for me.
