From what I know about Cube bikes in general, they tend to look good and be reasonably well specced for the money. You also don't see that many of them out on the road, compared with the hoardes of Trek/Specialized/Giant. However, it also depends what you want from your bike. The other Cube bikes that I have seen have a low, stretched racing-type geometry (rather than the more laid back sportive type) and certainly the head tube/steerer in the Bikeradar pick looks to be on the shorter side. If a more back friendly riding position is preferred, the Giant SCR/Defy range or Specialized Allez may be a better bet. My father in law has been cycling for many years, and has recently bought an '08 Giant SCR 3.0 which he is delighted with.

    Hope all this helps.

I have an old MTB at the moment, Trek 950 frame with custom bits and the ride position is quite stretched out, which I like and am used to, from a quick sit on the Cube at the shop I found it suited me.

I am basically looking to buy a bike that will last and give me some joy riding. At this price there seems to be a few I could look at and was struggling to a) find shops that sell them where I can get a ride to test and b)understand what key components I should look for as an investment.

I suppose like any novice entering into a major purchase it is quite daunting and I don't want to waste my money or this opportunity.

Thanks for the comments so far.

I have a Cube Aerial; bought it about eighteen months ago. I was not very keen on it for some considerable time and was a little disappointed. However, having changed the stem for a more upright version and upgarded the BB, I am now really pleased with it. It is not particularly light but then it was also not that expensive.
I now think it was money well spent and look forward to riding it a lot more. Hope this helps.
