After buying myself a Boardman comp a few months ago, my works has decided to do the cycle scheme with cycle solutions. So me being my greedy self i have decided sode it i might aswell take advantage of it and get myself another bike.
So with £1111.00 limit i have narrowed it down to Two bikes the Rockhopper pro or a Genesis core 40. I am sort of going towards the 40 due to the larger discs and the adjustable travel on the shock, but the only thing putting my off is the shock being coil and not air, will it make much of a noticable differance?
Has anyone here got either of these bikes or used the shocks if you have please let me know what you think.

i had a rockhopper pro through my cycle to work scheme in may , and i love it , been up on the ftd on cannock chase a few times now and the bikes so light and manouverable its great , one of my mates at work had the core 40 though and he loves that as well , so this probably doesnt help you much , best thing to do is go to you lbs and try both , see if you prefer one or the other0

Yep mintmota's right, gotta try them both and chose which feels best.
I had a similar dilemna, just a few hundred down the price line with the Core 20 and standard Rockhopper, the Core just felt better to me and I preferred the lairier colour scheme.0 -
The closest i can get to trying the core 40 is trying a core 20 as that is all that is in stock at the moment. another question i got aswell is what differance would a shorter frame make as i have noticed that the core frame is shorter than the hopper.0

Why the core and not the altitude may I ask? The altitude 10 has got great reviews and you might like the feel of a steel frame.0

I'm no expert on frame geometry I'm afraid and what it really means I'm not sure but here is what I think it means (hopefully someone with some real knowledge will confirm if what I am saying is claptrap or correct), a longer top tube lends itself to speed a bit more and shorter is more manouverable.
Please don't take any of that as gosple.
Airienteer has added another good bike to your list though. I think it got shortlisted in WMTB's bike of the year.0 -
Airienteer- One of the main things on the altitude i'm not happy with is that the rear derailuer hanger is not replacable and is part of the frame.
I was thinking the same thing with the shorter frame being more manouverable.0
