Anyone used basket to carry dog or a "Walkydog"

Don't laugh !

Here's the situation, last year the littlest one was 4 we had a trailor on the back which she sat in, we could put the dog in (Jack Russell Terrier so space isn't a problem) when near roads etc. then let him run free on tracks and forests where he'd run alongside without straying.

Problem is that the youngest is now 5 and she has moved up to the trailgator which I tag along behind me. Whilst the dog happily runs alongside I wouldn't trust him and don't feel it's safe when we're near roads etc. So we're trying to find a way to take him with us and would appreciate if anyone has tried either the dog basket on the handle bars http://www.canineconcepts.co.uk/item--D ... uxe---dogs
or the "Walkydog" attachment, this basically fastens to the down tube and places a bar out sideways which fasten to the dogs collar (keeps the dog under control but prevents them from being run over by the cycle) http://www.canineconcepts.co.uk/item--W ... ead---dogs
I can see the pros and cons of both and would really love advice from someone who has tried either.

    Hi mtbcommuter,

I'm not in the UK, but I do have an entire page of informational WalkyDog videos with a lot of action footage. I have one video in particular that shows 2 ways it can be used with a smaller dog. Hope this helps:

  • Hi, we bought a walkydog so we could take out border terrier with us when going on bike rides - and he absolutely loves it - as soon as he is hitched up (we put his halti harness on him and clip the walkydog onto the ring on his back) he is desperate to start runnning. He can jog along quite happily at speeds of up to 10 miles per hour or more - and hte longest we have allowed him to go is about 8-10 miles!!!! Then we have put him into our Burley Rover dog trailer - which he is not quite so keen on has he yowls somewhat - as if he really wants to be out running again. We actually have attached the walkydog to the frame of the trailer but are planning to get an extra jaw so we can attach it directly to one of our bikes.
